PF2E VTT
Welcome, adventurer!
This VTT is in early development and can do almost nothing at the moment.
PF2E VTT is an opinionated VTT built for Pathfinder 2nd Edition TTRPG, focused on "frictionless" gameplay. It is inspired by the awesome Foundry VTT. A passion project of mine.
In my online sessions, I disliked how much of the player's time was wasted on "find the right button to press", "find all the actions I can do", etc. Let me expose how complex a simple "hit the goblin" flow in Foundry VTT:
- hover the goblin and press "T" to target
- open the character sheet (usually a click in the UI, not a shortcut)
- switch to the actions tab, unless you are already there
- find the right button to press (with or without a penalty)
- probably double-check with the GM
- press confirm on the roll dialog to make a roll
- press the button to roll damage, the correct one (there are two: normal or crit)
- the GM has to select the goblin
- ... and apply the damage
It depends on the particular Foundry VTT setup. But with few plugins and newbie players, it's constantly like this. A semantically simple action like "hit the goblin" takes 5+ actions from the player.
In contrast, I want the player to experience this:
- wait for your turn, see the action points counter and available actions
- click "strike" (a control always visible to the player)
- click the goblin
- the roll happens automatically
- the GM clicks "approve" on the result, optionally adjusts it before approval
- the damage roll happens automatically
- the GM clicks "approve" on the result, optionally adjusts it before approval
- the goblin is damaged, all effects and afflictions automatically applied
This is a good example of "frictionless" gameplay: just 2 clicks from the player. (Or 2 additional trivial clicks if a player want manual rolls or want to enter physical roll results).
I do not intend to create a Foundry VTT clone. Probably, Foundry VTT is the best universal VTT on the market. But its PF2E implementation does not automate much — it mostly gives tools to keep track of the process, rather than fully managing it.
Last but not least, Foundry VTT has client-side performance problems. Even on a decent laptop, FPS is low and the CPU gets as hot as if I were playing Baldur's Gate 3 — not a VTT with 2D tokens, a map, and a bit of visual effects.
PF2E VTT, in contrast, focuses on one system and is opinionated about the gameplay process. I expect the benefits of this narrow focus to be the foundation for a "frictionless" experience, near-full automation, and UI performance optimizations.
